MND League Game, Bethesda Stay and Lee Moves on..

Well its been a few months since my last post mainly because of a stay in hospital and further weakness to my right hand making it hard to do my blog, in fact my daughter Michelle is typing this out for me now. Firstly at the end of July The Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club with the help of Tony Spence & Jeff Costello organised this charity day and the first grade teams wore MND socks to show their support. I made my way onto the ground before kick off & shook all the hands of the players and wished them all a good game. The Giants ended up wining the game in the last 5 minutes against North Beach with a try right in front of the club rooms which sent the crowd into a frienzy. We managed to raise $500 with a raffle and the money tins. Regis Resources kindly donated $3000 which gave us a total of $3500 that was donated to MNDAWA. Great Effort and hopefully we can do the same thing next year and even raise a bit more.

Since being home after my peg operation I've had some trouble with excess saliva which is quite common with MND patients and it was suggested by my Silver Chain doctor to be monitored in hospital to try a couple of medications which could help the secretions. I headed to Bethesda Hospital in Claremont for the most part of August until we found something that worked. This hospital also gave me and idea of what Palliative Care would be like for me for when the time comes. Im very lucky as this is a beautiful place situated right on the Swan River and the nursing staff were fantastic.

Since leaving Bethesda I had a talk to my son Lee about the fact my care has gotten to the stage where I need a lot more help and that it was to much for Lee to now handle. I suggested that it was time for him to move on and have his own place and have more time for himself. I can not put in words how proud I am of Lee who has been there for me through all the hard times and changes. I love you mate... Coincidentally following this a government housing fully accessible unit was made available to me and I have since moved and enjoying the new setup which is great for my care support workers and family. There's a few other things going on to but will try and explain them in my next blog, stay tuned...
